Verse of the DayÂ

For Sunday, 21Â Dec 2025, Verse of the Day.
Explaining and demonstrating that the Messiah must suffer and rise from the dead. “This Jesus I am proclaiming to you is the Messiah,” he said.
— Acts 17:3 Verse of the Day.
Thoughts on Today’s Verse of the Day
The Jewish interpretation of the Messianic prophecies in the Old Testament is particular. The Messiah is regarded as a warrior or king who will deliver Israel from foreign occupation, bring peace and prosperity, and restore the nation so that other countries will respect it.
Â
This is a literal interpretation of the prophecies, but it remains incomplete. The Messiah as a worldly Saviour is linked to the millennial kingdom. The Messiah—Jesus—initially came to save the world from eternal death caused by sin. To accomplish this, the Messiah had to die and rise again.
Â
Paul preached this in Pisidian Antioch (Acts 13:26–47) and likely in every other city with a significant Jewish community. He can provide context for several prophecies that appear to conflict with the Warrior-King theme. Isaiah 50:6 speaks of someone whose enemies beat Him, pulled out His beard, and spat on Him.Â
Â
Isaiah 52:13—53:12, which many Jewish people find difficult to ignore, depicts the Messiah as someone who is despised, pierced for our transgressions, and heals us through His wounds. This idea that the Messiah must suffer and die is challenging for those who focus more on the Son of Man in Daniel 7:13, 14, who is given dominion over the nations.
Â
“Christ” derives from the Greek root word _christos_; it is Greek for “anointed one”, similar to the Hebrew term ‘Messiah’. “Explaining” originates from the Greek root _dianoigo_; literally, it means to open what has been closed. Metaphorically, it signifies enlightenment or opening someone’s mind. This is illustrated in the story of the two disciples whom Jesus encountered after the resurrection; their eyes were opened (Luke 24:31) after Jesus opened the Scriptures to them (Luke 24:32).Â
Â
“Proving” is derived from the Greek root word paratithemi. Literally, it means to place something nearby; metaphorically, it means to explain or to set the meaning of something in front of someone else. The word is also used in Acts 14:23 regarding Paul’s group’s elders committed to the Lord. — Verse of the Day.

Genesis 1:28 – Then God blessed them and said, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and every living thing that moves on the earth.”
Exodus 34:10 – The Lord said, “I am making a covenant with you. Before all your people, I will do wonders that have never been done in any nation worldwide. The people you live among will see how excellent the work that I, the Lord, will do for you.Â
Genesis 8:22 – “As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night will never cease.”The Psalm of Victory 23:5 – You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. The Lord provides for us more generously than our hearts can desire. The enemies can do nothing about God’s generosity but can only watch and admire the victory the Lord has given us.
Romans 8:38 – 38 – For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Isaiah 54:17 – No weapon formed against thee shall prosper, and thou shalt condemn every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment. This is the heritage of the LORD’s servants, whose righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
Genesis 1:1 – In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. We shall largely adhere to the essential, fundamental, and unambiguous concepts. The Bible’s opening statements unequivocally declare that God, who we will eventually learn to be the God of Israel, created the earth and the sky. In other words, He made everything in the natural universe, including our globe and everything on it, the skies, the heavens, and outer space.
