Romantic Relationship How to Keep it Healthy

We saw in a previous blog that a relationship between a man and a woman must be based on love and that there are steps to follow if we want to do things according to God’s will. In the time of Adam or Isaac, it seemed easier to follow these steps, but in our current context where a more or less long time can pass between the time of dating and marriage, we must show a lot of wisdom to stay in God’s plan. Here are some tips to help you keep your romantic relationship healthy while you are not yet married.

Give your relationship a purpose

Dating time should have a purpose: to develop knowledge of each other with a view to a life together in the future. To do this, the romantic relationship must begin with a sincere friendship between you and the other. To develop this friendship, you need to meet each other, discover each other, experience situations together, to see each other react to each other in different situations, …

Share the same principle

It is always easier to carry out a project when the actors share not only the same goal but also the same principles. The same is true with romantic relationships. In this regard, if you are a Christian, it is better not to build your romantic life with a person who does not take into account God’s principles. Furthermore, a clear common resolution concerning sexuality will be a protection against temptation and misunderstandings.

Meditate on the Word of God

It must be said that no passage in the Bible speaks of what to do when you go out with someone for the simple reason that it was not a context that still existed at that time. But that does not mean that God does not have his say. Through your meditation on His word, you will learn that God is holy, and he wants you to be too. He will give you instructions on true love, respect for others, fidelity, etc. In addition, several biblical stories allow us to draw principles to apply in our lives.

Putting up barriers to physical contact

Flirting is the main temptation for young people in romantic relationships. A relationship should not be based on sexual attraction. And, let’s remember, engaging in sexual experiences before marriage is disobeying God!
How can you avoid it? Favor group outings with other friends prefer public places too isolated corners, do activities together: sports, cinema, … and dare to say NO!

Stay as far away as possible from anything that could cause you to fall

Feeding your mind with immoral thoughts can lead to sexual immorality. Among other things, since we are sensitive to what we see, wisdom urges us not to put anything bad before our eyes (Psalm 101:3). This is why it is not good to watch movies, books, or anything else that would encourage immoral behavior, not by the will of God. Also, avoid making crude jokes among friends.

Having a Prayer Life

Watch and pray, so that you will not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak ” (Matthew 26:41). When we commit ourselves to a life of prayer, we open every door of our existence to God so that He may reign and manifest His power. When faced with the temptation of evil, we must seek His help and protection because our strength will never be enough to fight. Sincerely ask God for what you need help with to keep your relationship in line with His will.
