Bible Verse of the Week

Verse of the week
Verse of the week.

For Monday, February 24 2025, verse of the day

So Abram went up from Egypt to the Negev with his wife and everything he had, and Lot went with him. Abram had become very wealthy in livestock, silver, and gold.

— Genesis 13:1-2 Verse of the week.

Thoughts on Today’s Verse of the day….

In Chapter 12, out of fear, Abram—later known as Abraham—lied about Sarai being his wife. Consequently, God sent a plague upon Pharaoh’s household to capture Sarai. When the Pharaoh realised what had transpired, he ordered them away but allowed Abram to keep the dowry he had paid. As a result, Abram was far more affluent than ever when he returned to Canaan.

Pharaoh increased Abram’s growing wealth by giving him livestock and servants. Because Abram and his nephew Lot have numerous herds, their herdsmen quarrel over the limited resources in the Bethel area where they have settled. Instead of fighting, Abram suggests that they go their separate ways.

Abram offers Lot the first option for where to settle. Near the town of Sodom, notorious for its immorality, Lot chooses the fertile lands along the Jordan River. Lot would pay a heavy price for his decision to live so close to (and eventually within) Sodom.

After their separation, the Lord speaks to Abram again, reiterating and expanding on His promises. All the land that Abram can see will belong to him and his descendants, who will become as numerous as the dust of the earth. Despite Abram being in his mid-seventies, childless, and without any land in Canaan, God still makes this promise.

God instructed Abram to traverse the length and breadth of the land to take possession of it. Abram settled near the village of Hebron, south of Bethel. He pitched his tents beside the grand trees owned by Mamre, an Amorite man. Abram built an altar to the Lord at his new residence and continued to worship Him there. —Verse of the day.

My Prayer…

Dear Heavenly Father, I come before You today to thank You for the people who have blessed me. You have surrounded me with outstanding individuals who have shown me love, kindness, and support. I am grateful for their presence and how they have blessed my life.

Lord, I pray that You bestow Your blessings upon these exceptional individuals. May you enrich their relationships, careers, and personal pursuits. Guide them and shield them from all harm. Fill their hearts with joy, peace, and love.

I ask that you grant them the strength and wisdom to continue blessing others, just as they have blessed me. May their generosity and kindness be richly rewarded and reflect your love for those around them. Amen — verse of the day.

Comment:

Jesus never asked Christians to tithe; Abraham was not a Christian.

Abraham, the first man to tithe, was not a Christian. God now fulfils His promises to him by stating that those who bless Abram will also be blessed, and all the families of the earth, or “peoples,” will be blessed through Abram.

Abram must DEPART to receive these promises, which have made him wealthy. Tithes or his behaviour are irrelevant to God’s promises. God chose him for His reasons, which are known to Him alone. All Abram needs is faith that God will fulfil His promises rather than paying tithes to anyone or doing anything else.

So, cease paying tithes; bless Abraham every moment of your life, and then God will bless you. He is faithful; He accomplishes what He promises. Obey God’s will today, live by your calling, and stop tithing. Bless Abraham and receive God’s blessings in Jesus’ name. Period!

Regarding tithing and similar matters, we have no justification for not doing what we know is right. If any of the lessons in the Bible pertain to us, we will be in error if we do not change our course immediately.
